Presentations for Community Groups

Energy Efficiency Is An Investment In The Future Of Our Community

For this presentation, we offer energy-saving tips and answer questions about energy-efficient products and services. Free energy-efficient light bulbs will be distributed to seminar attendees (only two bulbs per household).

This seminar is sponsored by the Ecology Action Center, the Bloomington-Normal’s Regional Energy Program, and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. The goal of the Regional Energy Program is to raise awareness about energy issues and energy-efficiency among residents, small- to medium-sized businesses, and K-12 school children.

Please contact the Ecology Action Center to schedule a speaker for your meeting. The half-hour program is free for community groups in McLean County.

Keep Warm Illinois Home Energy Workshops

The Keep Warm Illinois workshops to be broadcast at community colleges throughout Illinois will feature cost-conscious home energy efficiency subjects including: insulation, weatherization, heating, water heating, energy efficient appliances and lighting. The workshops will last approximately one hour and will include written materials, a video presentation and a question and answer period to help educate Illinoisans about do-it-yourself energy-saving strategies to help reduce the cost of this winter’s heating bills through conservation and weatherization techniques. The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) will host the workshops in partnership with Illinois’ network of community colleges.

Gov. Blagojevich launched the comprehensive Keep Warm Illinois campaign in response to the spike in energy prices that is affecting consumers nationwide. With record natural gas prices anticipated for this winter’s heating season, Illinois households will face significantly higher utility bills, with costs up to 70 percent higher than last winter. While every family in Illinois will be affected, higher home heating costs will create a particular hardship for senior citizens and families already struggling to get by. People can now also call the Keep Warm Illinois hotline, 1-877-411-WARM, for information about energy conservation, energy assistance or to find a home energy savings workshop near them. The hotline is available Monday – Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm. You can also visit the Keep Warm Illinois Website which offers energy saving tips, a web-based tool to conduct home energy audits, information on energy assistance programs and schedules for home weatherization and energy assistance events.
