Observe and identify various species of bird and learn why birds are a good indicator of the environment.
Energy
Understand the flow of heat energy. Learn 6 different forms of energy and how
each form can be converted. Become aware of the world’s energy sources
and how long they are expected to last. Learn what fuels the United States uses
to produce energy.
Environmental Science
Understand the history of environmental science.
Hands-on activities about ecology, air pollution, water pollution, endangered species, and resource recovery. We also look at land use practices and careers
Forestry
Learn to identify trees and how they promote ecological and economic well-being. Investigate forest management practices
Mammal Study
Learn about what makes mammals unique. Investigate animal tracks and scat and create a conservation project. .
Nature
Learn the differences between animals such as invertebrates, vertebrates, and
mammals. Discover how plants and animals are important to one another and learn about the 4-step food chain.
Pulp and Paper
Learn about the history of papermaking and the plants papers are made from. Make recycled paper while learning about the process in paper mills.
Reptiles and Amphibians
Study characteristics of reptiles and amphibians in the United States and
around the local areas and learn how to classify them by colors and markings.
Soil and Water Conservation
Learn about the components of soil and how plants utliize it to grow. Also
learn about the necessity of conserving soil and water. Take a walk to find
erosion, sedimentation or pollution problems, and discuss how these can be
fixed.
Weather
Discover meteorology by learning about air movement, pressure changes, and clouds. Discuss dangerous weather and the safety measures that can be taken.
Cub Scouts
Your Living World (Wolf)
Learn about the world around you. Discuss plants and animals and what you can do to protect the earth.
Share Your World with Wildlife (Bear)
Discuss the interaction between humans and the world. Learn about pollution and pollution prevention.
Take Care of Your Planet (Bear)
Discover your planet earth. Examine various process and ecosystems and what you can do to preserve them.
Forester (Webelos)
Learn the different parts of a tree and what each of them do. Discuss which
types of trees can be found in the different areas of the United States, and
see how both wildlife and humans use forests.
Naturalist (Webelos)
Learn about bird flyways closest to your home and which birds use these
flyways. Identify different venomous snakes and poisonous plants found in your
area. Learn about the balance of nature and the food chain of an ecosystem
chain of an ecosystem.
