Special Disposal Items
Plastic Bags
Many people are familiar with the world-wide plastic grocery bag problem.
While there are environmental advantages to moving from paper to plastic,
plastic bags are not accepted in McLean County recycling programs. We join the
Green Guide in saying "Bag the Bag." More
information is available in this
article on the "Bag the Bag" program.
If you are being crushed under a mountain of bags,
or just want to minimize waste and help the environment you can:
- Buy a reusable Ecology Action Center shopping bag.
- Large Recycled Cotton Canvas Grocery Tote Bags
OR the new convenient ChicoBag which stores compactly in its own stuff sack with carabiner to attach to your backpack, purse, etc.
- With the message "Paper or Plastic? Neither... I choose to
Reuse!" and the EAC Logo
- Cost: $6.00 (including sales tax) for the Canvas Tote Bag OR $5.00 (including sales tax) for the new ChicoBag
- Available at the EAC and the Common Ground Grocery in Bloomington
- Plastic grocery bag recycling is available at Wal-Mart, Jewel-Osco and
Schnucks.
- Reuse plastic grocery bags for dirty jobs, trash can liners, etc.
