DESCRIPTION:Join the Ecology Action Center and Wendell Niepagen’s Greenhouses for a morning of sustainable yard care and water conservation as part of their Garden Gathering Series! \nKick off the day at 9:30 a.m. with our Rain Barrel Workshop\, where you’ll learn the environmental benefits of collecting rainwater and how to install and maintain your own rain barrel. During the hour long workshop\, EAC staff will guide you through downspout transitions\, proper winter storage\, and everyday use tips. For $55 you’ll leave with a 55-gallon repurposed food-grade barrel and the confidence to put it to use at home! Registration is required below. \n \nThen\, at 11:00 a.m.\, stick around for “Yard Smart: Gardening for a Healthier Home and Planet”. This engaging presentation introduces the Yard Smart program—an initiative focused on safe\, sustainable yard care practices. Learn how to reduce chemical use\, conserve water and energy\, and create habitats for native wildlife\, all while keeping your yard beautiful and family-friendly. Registration for this presentation is recommended but is not required. \n \nWhether you’re new to gardening or a seasoned green thumb\, you’ll walk away with practical tools and inspiration to make your outdoor space a force for good.

SUMMARY:Rain Barrel Workshop: Saturday\, August 16\, 2025 (9:00-10:00am)
DESCRIPTION:The EAC’s rain barrel workshops teach attendees about the importance of rain water catchment in preventing storm water runoff pollution! Attendees will learn how to locate\, install\, and set up their rain barrel. We’ll also provide tips to transition downspouts for rain barrel usage\, and information on proper winter storage. Workshops cost $60.00 for general public and $50.00 for EAC Members. \nThroughout our workshop there will be ample opportunity for Q&A with EAC staff\, who can answer questions about beneficial environmental impacts as well as practical everyday use of rain barrels. \nBy the end of the workshop\, participants will have a sound understanding of the individual and community benefits of having a rain barrel\, and can be confident about next steps to install\, use and care for one. Participants will leave with their very own rain barrel made from a repurposed food-grade 55 gallon drum. \n \n*Workshop registration closes 3 days before the workshop start date.* \nThe Ecology Action Center will make reasonable accommodations for participation in public programs and services.
