“Adventures of a Plastic Water Bottle” – Summer Library Reading Program 2018

July 10 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Ecology Action Center Art Contest

This year, the Ecology Action Center will incorporate the “Reading Takes You Everywhere!” theme of area library summer reading programs by following the recycling adventure of a plastic bottle from start to finish! We will read the book “The Adventures of a Plastic Bottle” and then have a discussion about the life cycle of these products after they get discarded and when they get recycled. Once we have come to the conclusion that reusing and recycling items are more favorable options than filling up our landfills, summer readers will then learn about how recycling occurs right here in McLean County at Midwest Fiber. They will hopefully have grasped an initial understanding of what it actually means for an item to “be recycled”, and are now eager to recycle as much as they can knowing how important it is! The question for our young readers then becomes: What about all of those other items we use on a daily, weekly, monthly basis…can we recycle them, too?! Young readers be invited to visit the EAC website to learn more about the world of recycling and have the opportunity to participate in our summer art contest to demonstrate their knowledge on the importance of recycling, with a chance to have their artwork featured at the EAC office for all visitors to admire!
