DESCRIPTION:Join University of Illinois Extension Master Naturalists on Saturday\, September 19th at COMLARA Park for Nature Trails Day 2026! This fun-filled family event offers opportunities to hike the trails\, learn up close about owl pellets\, and engage in hands-on activities to explore the environment around us. This event costs only $10.00 per family or group (up to 10 people)\, which includes a hiking kit to take home! With your choice of sessions\, you can pick what interests you most! Check out the Session Descriptions to read about all the fun options. \n\nNative Plants & Pollinators: Learn about native plants & the pollinators they support. (Aimed toward adults and older youth.)\nOwl Pellet Exploration: Dissect an owl pellet to learn about what owls eat and how they live! (for all ages)\nTrailside Explorers: Explore several nature activity stations set up along the trail (for all ages)\nTree & Habitat Hike: Hike the trails and learn about the different tree species in the area and what makes each special. (Aimed toward adults & older youth.)\nYouth Fishing: Join Scout leaders as they teach youth participants the basics of fishing! DESCRIPTION:Whether picking out pumpkins from a field or carving fun faces into them with friends\, pumpkins show everyone it’s the fall season. What happens when it’s time to say goodbye as they melt on the porch? \nGreen up Halloween by recycling pumpkins into compost at a free\, outdoor Pumpkin Smash offered from 10 am to 2 pm and Rader Family Farms in Normal. \nNo cost or registration is required to attend. For questions\, contact Nick Frillman at (309) 663-8306 \nFind the full list of Extension Pumpkin Smash events happening across the state in early November at go.illinois.edu/PumpkinSmash. \nPumpkin Smash Instructions\n\nCollect pumpkins from the home\, neighborhood\, school\, or workplace.\nRemove candles\, ribbons\, paint\, and any other non-organic materials.\nDrop off pumpkins at a smash site on the date and time of the specific event.
