SUMMARY:Rain Barrel Workshop: Thursday\, March 12\, 2026 (5:30-6:30pm)
DESCRIPTION:The EAC’s rain barrel workshops teach attendees about the importance of rain water catchment in preventing storm water runoff pollution! Attendees will learn how to locate\, install\, and set up their rain barrel. We’ll also provide tips to transition downspouts for rain barrel usage\, and information on proper winter storage. Workshops cost $60.00 for general public and $50.00 for EAC Members. \nThroughout our workshop there will be ample opportunity for Q&A with EAC staff\, who can answer questions about beneficial environmental impacts as well as practical everyday use of rain barrels. \nBy the end of the workshop\, participants will have a sound understanding of the individual and community benefits of having a rain barrel\, and can be confident about next steps to install\, use and care for one. Participants will leave with their very own rain barrel made from a repurposed food-grade 55 gallon drum. \n \n*Workshop registration closes 3 days before the workshop start date.* \nThe Ecology Action Center will make reasonable accommodations for participation in public programs and services. To request accommodation\, please call 309-454-3169×11 or go to ecologyactioncenter.org/accommodation. Please provide two weeks advance notice if possible.

SUMMARY:Angler's Lake Stakeholder Meetings: January 6 & 7 (5:30-7:00pm)
DESCRIPTION:Anglers Lake has benefited from stewardship efforts over the years by individuals\, the City of Bloomington\, and other partners\, and it continues to be a valued site for many in our community. Unfortunately\, native biodiversity at the site has declined as invasive species have spread and displaced native grasses\, forbs\, and shrubs. \nIn coordination with the City of Bloomington\, the Ecology Action Center (EAC) hopes to add Anglers Lake as a Sugar Creek Stewards workday location. The EAC currently supports stewardship at Fairview Park and Ewing II and has done so for many years. \nOur hope is to begin coordinating regular stewardship workdays at Anglers Lake next year to help implement a long-term management plan. To do this thoughtfully and collaboratively\, we want to bring together all existing groups and individuals to develop a shared\, mutually agreed-upon vision through a stakeholder process. We do not wish to intrude upon or override any ongoing efforts; rather\, our goal is to help formalize\, support\, and build upon the many years of dedication already invested in this site. \nTo that end\, we invite all interested to participate in a collaborative stakeholder process to help inform the development of a site management plan by a qualified professional contractor. These meetings will be held at the Bloomington Public Library\, Community Room 2\, on January 6 and January 7 from 5:30–7:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend one or both meetings. \nIf you are unable to attend\, but would still like to give input\, please email kvogler@ecologyactioncenter.org to receive a form for input. \nThe Ecology Action Center will make reasonable accommodations for participation in public programs and services. To request accommodation\, please call 309-454-3169×11 or go to ecologyactioncenter.org/accommodation. Please provide two weeks advance notice if possible.

SUMMARY:Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event Volunteering: October 4\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:The McLean County Household Hazardous Waste collection event being held on Saturday\, October 4 depends on the assistance of dozens of volunteers to run smoothly.  Please consider signing up for a shift to assist with traffic control or other needs. Shifts are from 7:30-10:30am\, 10:15-1:15pm\, and 1-4pm. We are especially looking for assistance for our afternoon and mid-day shifts. \nThe work requires spending the entire shift on one’s feet\, clear communication with event participants\, and some possible light lifting with equipment setup/take-down. This is a high traffic event with moving cars and equipment so all volunteers must be at least 18 years of age in order to participate. Volunteers will receive detailed instructions prior to the event.

SUMMARY:Grow Solar Power Hour Presentation-September 16\, 2025\, 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our final virtual presentation on the Grow Solar Bloomington-Normal Program\, a group buy program for solar for homeowners in McLean and DeWitt Counties. You’ll find out how the program works\, how solar can benefit you\, and what discounts and incentives you can get for your home! We are approaching the end of the program\, but there’s still plenty of time to secure discounts on rooftop solar\, saving you money on increasing energy bills. \nPlease note\, due to our installer’s capacity restraints\, all remaining projects for this program will not be eligible for the 30% federal tax credit\, which expires at the end of the year. Even with this incentive gone\, going solar is still a smart investment for the long term. With energy rates forecast to continue increasing\, rooftop solar is a proven savings method that will help offset future rate hikes. Plus\, state and utility incentives are still available to ease the price\, on top of the group buy discount. \nWe hope to see you there! Sign up for the Zoom webinar here: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/3517514050118/WN_WJZ218e5RGKnWdBipFfxiw#/registration \n
