Every year the Ecology Action Center collects waste and recycling data to calculate the amount of municipal solid waste (MSW) that is generated and recycled within McLean County. Surveys are sent to local waste haulers, recycling facilities, municipalities, and large institutions. The data is then used to calculate the annual rate of recycling. The information gathered serves as a lagging indicator of the impact of local recycling and outreach programs. The graph below shows the McLean County recycle rate trend from 1998-2022.
