Please join us for the 11th Annual Sustainable Gourmet on Thursday, October 27, at 6 p.m. This popular fundraiser for the EAC features artisanal and sustainable food hors d’oeuvres, an organic wine tasting, and a silent auction with fabulous sustainable items from local businesses and organizations. The event will be held at the Bloomington-Normal Marriott at 201 Broadway Ave, Normal, Illinois.
The Marriott’s Chef Steve Meilinger and Bill Davison, Small Farms and Local Food Systems Educator with the U of I Extension, are again collaborating on a cutting edge menu of food offerings which focus on local food, sustainably grown, and on reducing food waste. Where possible, this year’s ingredients will include “seconds” and produce otherwise deemed less marketable due to solely to consumers’ superficial preference for “pretty” produce. Usage of seconds, especially for dishes that will undergo some degree of preparation anyway, is completely safe and helps reduce waste.
Please join us for this annual celebration as we continue to push the envelope towards more innovative solutions to address local, regional, and global environmental challenges. Proceeds of this fundraiser benefit the Ecology Action Center and its important environmental education efforts. Tickets are $40 and are available online or at the EAC. Deadline for ticket purchase is Thursday, October 20.
